I think fvar is a legacy format for naming instances, and fundamentally broken; its only value is for legacy systems that haven't been updated to deal with STAT.1 -

I think it's teaching us something. The entire design feels "wound up," like a sprinter or a swimmer at the Olympics coiled up and waiting for the starting gun in just a second1
